Hello Science Marchers! Bonjour!

Why are we all gathered here today on a freezing, rainy day? Why did we decide to march with our family, friends, and teachers?

Pourquoi sommes-nous tous réunis ici aujourd’hui? Pourquoi avons-nous décidé de marcher avec notre famille, nos amis et nos enseignants?

And the answer is “WHY” itself!   “Why” is a small but a powerful word. It provides answers to our curiosity.

Et la réponse est “POURQUOI” elle-même! “POURQUOI” est un petit mais puissant mot. Ca répond à notre curiosité.

We progressed when early humans looked up at the Sun and asked, why does the Sun give warmth? Why does a fire give warmth?

We progressed when Newton questioned, “Why does an Apple fall on the ground?”

We progressed when Canadian Scientist Jennifer Sidey asked: “Why do flames emit harmful pollutants?” She ended up becoming the newest Canadian Astronaut.

Nous avons progressé lorsque les premiers humains ont levé les yeux vers le soleil et demandé, pourquoi le soleil donne-t-il de la chaleur? Pourquoi un feu donne-t-il de la chaleur?

Nous avons progressé lorsque Newton a demandé: “Pourquoi une pomme tombe-t-elle sur le sol?”

Nous avons progressé lorsque la scientiste canadienne Jennifer Sidey, a demandé: “Pourquoi les flammes émettent-elles des polluants? ” Et elle est devenue la nouvelle astronaute canadienne.

We stand on shoulders of Giants who were not afraid to ask Why. We must protect this freedom to keep asking “Why”.

Nous sommes sur les épaules des Géants qui n’avait pas peur de demander Pourquoi. On a besoin de protéger cette habilité de future générations a demander “POURQUOI”.

How many of us learned the nursery rhyme – “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, How I wonder what you are?”  How many of us continue to wonder what stars are made of?

Combien d’entre nous ont appris la comptine populaire – “Twinkle Twinkle petite étoile, Comment je me demande ce que vous êtes?” Combien d’entre nous continuent à se demander de quoi sont faites les étoiles?

This brings me to my favorite science organization: The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. It is 150 years old and open to anyone interested in space and astronomy. The first time I attended their events, I looked at the Saturn rings through their telescopes. And that was the beginning of my fascination with space.

Cela m’amène à mon organisation scientifique préférée au Canada: la Société royale d’astronomie du Canada. Il a 150 ans et est ouvert à toute personne intéressée par l’espace et l’astronomie. La première fois que j’ai assisté à leurs observations de ciel nocturne, j’ai regardé les anneaux de Saturne à travers leurs télescopes. Et ce fut le début de ma fascination pour l’espace.

The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada along with the Ontario Science Centre has shaped my interests in space, science, rockets and making things. It has helped our family to become a Maker Family. I encourage everyone to become members of scientific societies and Museums in your cities.

La Société royale d’astronomie du Canada, avec le Centre des sciences de l’Ontario ont formé mon intérêt pour l’espace, la science, les fusées, la fabrication et la programation. Ceci a aidé notre famille de construire plusieurs choses. J’encourage tout le monde à devenir membre des sociétés scientifiques et des musées de vos villes.
